12. | John Carter, Sr. (4.Susannah2, 1.Susannah1) was born Abt 1774, Halifax County, Virginia; died Bef Dec 1840, Prince Edward Co., Virginia. Notes:
Mary Bigger (daughter of James Bigger). She married John Carter on Apr 15, 1806 in Prince Edward County, Virginia. In 1841, a Chancery Cause is shown on the LVA Chancery Records Index by Samuel W. Carter, Etc Plaintiff and John T. Carter, Gardian of minor children of John Carter, who had died intestate, leaving 6 children, 2 of whom are minors, and wife, Mary Carter. It is shown that her father, James Bigger of Prince Edward has given her 200 acres....

13. | William Carter (4.Susannah2, 1.Susannah1) was born Abt 1777, Halifax County, Virginia; died 1805, Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Notes:
http://reynoldspatova.org/getperson.php?personID=I12951&tree=reynolds1
What is it that you want to add?
My reasoning is that James Vaughan is involved with the individuals included in the Lines of Richard Carter and Susannah Bigger; he is guardian and gives consent for the marriage of Nancy LeGrand to William Turner in Halifax Co. His ward Elizabeth 'Betsy' Turner, d/o Nancy LeGrand and William Turner, married one of my grandfathers, William George 'Buck' Carter. The LeGrands removed to Tennessee; but Betsy is found in Halifax with James Vaughan acting for her father. This James Vaughan also acted as Bondsman for William Carter who married Mary Hobson. Wm., a son of Susannah Bigger and Richard Carter. Richard had died in 1797 and James Vaughan acted in his stead. William Carter would be the uncle of Buck Carter. http://reynoldspatova.org/getperson.php?personID=I12907&tree=reynolds1
http://reynoldspatova.org/getperson.php?personID=I15070&tree=reynolds1
Further, Wm. Carter's birth is about 1778, Halifax Co., VA. He marries Polly in 1801 probably right after his 21st birthday, which is exactly what we would expect. If the Wm. who married Mary Hobson was the s/o Theodorick as other researchers propose, he would have been born in the 1740's, or at the latest 1750. By 1801 he would have been 50 or more. I just can't see that being the case. Another William candidate is the s/o Theodorick4 and his first wife, Ms. Townes. He is in Prince Edward, later in Halifax with an estimated birth of 1765. I do not think there is a Will for this William, but I will double check when I am in Halifax next month.
They were located on the Pittsylvania Co., side of Halifax; Jesse, his brother married Susannah Adkins, who is also from Pittsylvania Co., VA
So, as you see, there is no direct evidence that has turned up as of now. This is just my theory of one other member of my Carter line. Note: I can be wrong, but this is my best guess. The LVA is in the processing and scanning the Halifax Chancery Records and they are not yet available. They may tell us more, if I live long enough for them [LVA] to finish.
Mary Frances
William married Mary 'Polly' Hobson 23 Mar 1801, Halifax County, Virginia. Mary (daughter of William Hobson and Elizabeth Warren) was born 24 Apr 1783, Halifax Co., Virginia; died 7 May 1850, Pittsylvania County, Virginia. [Group Sheet]
Children:
- 46. Elizabeth Mary Carter was born 20 Jun 1802, Halifax County, Virginia; died 1832, Pittsylvania County, Virginia.

You need to look at this Eggisland website and not Dick Zieman?s Daniels tree for actual documents on the Giles Carter line. Steve Eggleston is Mary Frances Eggleston's husband who maintains the server. Please note the documents attached to Richard Carter, Lemuel Carter Sr and Lemuel Carter Jr
I think the birth date for Lemuel Carter Sr who dies in Caswell County, is probably more like 1780 ? 82. If we believe the 1850 Census of Halifax County, Virginia, where I think the ages are inaccurate, then he would not have been a minor if born in 1774.... when his father died ca 1796. And his wife shows as born 1790 which would make her 11 years old if Lemuel Cartrer Sr and Martha ?Patsy? Carter actually married in 1801 in Halifax, County. In the 1860 Census in Caswell County, North Carolina, Lemuel Carter shows as L. Carter and it states a birth age similar to that in the 1850 Census in Halifax County. The probate records in Caswell County show this is the same Lemuel Carter Sr. The probate records images for Caswell County on this site show show Lemuel Carter Sr. had a son named John and Lemuel Carter. Lemuel Jr. had a son John Flint who also had a son John Flint Carter. These Lemuel Carter attachments in the tree are not transcriptions and are actual images which is really fantastic.

Carter Glass Powell (1800-1857)
His birth date also is seen as 16 May 1800. Source: The
Heritage of Caswell County, North Carolina, Jeannine
D. Whitlow, Editor (1985) at 438-439 (Article #573 "The
Carter Powell Family" by Mrs Helen Powell Neal).
The owners of the homes in which Thomas Day's architectural
woodwork is found constituted some of the wealthiest and
most powerful individuals in the Dan River region:
physician John Tab Garland, M.D., at one time the richest
man in Caswell County (1850s and 1860s); banker and civic
leader Thomas Donoho Johnston; machine shop, foundry, and
sawmill owner Caleb Richmond; state senator James Kerr;
merchant and tobacco factory owner John Wilson; planters
William Long (also the owner of a sawmill and gristmill),
Sidney Lea, George Williamson, Haywood Williams, Thomas
Mumford McGehee, and William H. Holderness.
Family relationships among the planters enhanced the demand
for Thomas-Day-made architectural trimwork. Thomas Donoho
Johnston built Clarendon Hall in 1842 and tapped Day to
embellish the interior; when his sister and brother-in-law,
Sarah and William Long, built the Long House in 1856, they,
too, turned to Day. Day provided the architectural woodwork
for the house of Captain Carter Powell around 1848 and that
of his son Henry Alexander Powell less than a decade later.
Thomas L. Lea and his siblings Sidney S. Lea and Rebecca
Lea (Mrs. George Williamson), his niece Elizabeth Lea (Mrs.
Calvin Graves), and his daughter Ann Lea (Mrs. William
Griffin Graves) provided Day the opportunity to do the
woodwork on a law office and four of their five houses
between 1840 and 1850.
The woodwork suggests the Carter Powell house was built
around 1848 rather than the more often cited 1850. Day's
machine-cut newels with tendrils date Henry Powell's house
to 1853-1855. Day's work for Elizabeth Lea and Calvin
Graves was not on their house, as it was built several

60. | Richard Henry Walker Carter (16.Richard3, 4.Susannah2, 1.Susannah1) was born Abt. 1826, Halifax Co., Virginia; died 1907, Halifax Co., Virginia. Notes:
http://www.virginians.com/t.htm?7076
Richard Carter (-1795) married Susanna Bigger in Prince Edward County 29 December (bond) 1772. Susanna, as administratrix, delivered the inventory of Richard's estate of taken 18 February 1796. Susanna married second David Powell 17 November 1796, and Powell became guardian to her three younger children, Richard, Samuel, and Nancy, by September 1797. A chancery suit of November 1796 identified Richard's heirs as John Carter, who was then of age, and minors, Thomas, Lemuel, William, Mary, Richard, Samuel, and Nancy.
Robert A. Jones was a resident of Halifax County, N.C. The collection includes personal accounts of Jones of Halifax County, N.C.; accounts for his ward; and accounts he kept as treasurer for the county poor wardens, 1820-1822. Robert A. Jones (fl. 1817-1829) was a cotton planter and large landholder in Halifax County, N.C., where he served as treasurer of the Wardens of the Poor and treasurer of the Roanoke Navigation Company. Jones owned property and slaves elsewhere in North Carolina as well, including Bertie and Wake counties. Plantations he either owned or helped manage included the Grove, Occaneeche, New Hope, and Indian Woods. He appears also to have operated a paper mill outside Raleigh, N.C., and a blacksmith shop in Halifax.
Between 1817 and 1826, Jones served as guardian for Willie W. Jones, who was possibly his nephew. Willie was the son of Mrs. Mary Montfort Jones, for whom Robert Jones acted as estate administrator after her death in 1825. In 1823, Jones was also appointed estate administrator for James Johnston (d. 1821), former postmaster of Halifax County, who died intestate. Two enclosures are one receipt from Richard Carter, dated 27 January 1826, for timber sawed and one undated page of miscellaneous calculations.[Must be Jr.]
Richard Carter is found on the 1870 Census Halifax VA in the hh 167/168 of his brother William George 'Buck' Carter along with William's wife 'Betsy' 58 and living with them is George T. and alongside is Edward and wife Harriett in their first year of marriage. This is then, Richard Carter, s/o Lemuel and Patsy Powell Carter.
