11. | Samuel Smith Carter (1.Giles1) was born 27 Nov 1789, Prince William Co., Virginia; died 13 Apr 1852, Richmond, Virginia; was buried , Carter Graveyard, Richmond, Virginia. Notes:
Samuel Smith Carter married widow Ann Heisler Douglas in Richmond in 1811 and died in 1832, leaving his wife Ann and their children, who moved in with Samuel's brother John at Myrtle Grove (now Forest Lawn Cemetery) where they stayed until death. All are buried there and headstones are still present as the estate was sold and converted to a cemetery much later on, but their stones remain among all the more recent ones. This is the only link I have connecting Samuel to John and thus to Carter and Martha, in addition to the clue of his middle name Smith matching his mother's maiden name, but I think it is a very good one. Also, Samuel named one of his son's Gustavus Giles. -Paul Jesperson
