Addison L. Edwards was born on October 27, 1845. He enlisted, date unknown, as Pvt., Co. K, 14th Virginia Infantry. Addison was captured at Gettysburg on July 3, 1863 and held as a prisoner of war at Fort McHenry, Ft. Delaware, and Point Lookout, Maryland. He was apparently exchanged as he rejoined his company until December 7, 1863. Addison was captured again at Five Forks on April 1, 1865. He was held as a priosner of war at City Point (Hopewell, Virginia) until transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland where he took the Oath of Allegiance and was released on June 11, 1865.

Sarah Frances Powell married Addison Lafayette Edwards before; she is shown on the 1860 Census with William T. Edwards, her first husband, and her paternal grandmother Mary 'Polly' Carter (d/o Richard Carter and Susanna Bigger) Powell, wife of Mastin Powell. Addison was a confederate soldier and is discharged in 1865 after being captured and taken to Point Lookout. Robert at 5/12 (months) is her eldest child; my grandmother, Mattie Frances is another of her children, with her second husband. The marriage record for Sally Fanny and William T. is found in Person Co., North Carolina. Although she is buried with Addison, no marriage record has yet been located. - Mary Frances Eggleston 2013
