Ruth Kettle
Birth: ABT 1670 in Of Burlington, Burlington, New Jersey, United States
Death: Y
The old Court records of Burlington contain this entry the marriage of T homas Bibb and Ruth Kettle.* THOMAS BIBB & RUTH KETTLE - The marriage between Thomas Bibb & Ruth Kettle was solemnized the Seven & twentieth day of July Anno 1693 at ye House of Tho: Potts in Burlington (her father in Law) before Edw : Hunloke Depty Governor. John Tatham & Tho: Reve ll Justices! And before, many other witnesses.
NOTE: The term father-in-law was, at that date, very generally used as a synonym for step-father. Thomas Potts could scarcely have had a married son deceased at that time, indeed Ruth Kettle must have been considerably older than any of Thomas Potts' own children, hence the only legitimate conclusion is that Thomas Potts had married a widow Kettle who had at least one child Ruth. This also accounts for the use of the term " children " in the passenger list of the Shield
The Potts Family in Great Britain and America"
