    1. [S42] Obituary.
Barclay REYNOLDS, a prominent citizen of Cecil county Maryland died at his home at Rising Sun on Saturday last, in his 80th yr. He had been failing for some time and his death resulted from the natural decline of his powers, accelarated, possibly by a kick by a horse last fall. He was a son of Taylor and Eliza Reynolds, deceased, and died in the house which he was born October 22, 1819, the farm beloning to the Reynolds family several generations. This family is one of the oldest in Cecil county, the progenitor, Benjamin Reynolds, recieving title for a large tract of land from William Penn, when 19 years of age Barclay began teaching school, and four years afterwards opened a store at Harrisville, where he continued in business for twelve years. He then went back to the home farm and remained upon it to the close of his life, except for two years, during which time he resided in Elkton, having been elected to the office of Sheriff of Cecil in 1857.Mr Reynolds cast his first vote for William Henry Harrison for president afterwards going from the old Whig to the new Republician party. For several years he was a school trustee for the sixth district, and had for the past forty years had been a director of the Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Cecil County. He was probably the oldest Odd Fellow in Maryland, having joined Excelsior Lodge at Rising Sun when it was organized. He was a member of the Society of Friends, and was a trustee at the time of his death. He was married to Miss Amanda C. Carter of Chester county, Pa. who, with his four childrenall grown survive him, Howard H. a farmer,Eugene A. a school teacher in Cecil county, Barclay A. of Philadelphia,Mrs. Sophia C. Reynolds, wife of Elmer Reynolds, near Oxford Pa.The son Charles died at his home in Wilmimgton on the 5th. Barclay Reynolds lead a long and useful life; being a man of good judgement his advise was sought by many. He was affable and friendly towards all, a kind neighbor, a good husband and father.

The funeral took place on Tuesday, when a large number of relatives, friends and neighbors assembled at the old homestead to show their respect and honor his burial. a touching incedent, when the "last look" of the face of the dead was being taken, was the arrival of scholars and teachers of the Rising Sun public schools and Friends normal school.marching in double file, passing into the room where the body lay and out another door. The burial was at West Nottingham Friends graveyard, addresses being made in the Meeting-house by Edwin Buffington, of Rising Sun, Mary Way of Oxford, and George Balderson of Colora, The ball bearers were John Stephen Reynolds,Jonathan Reynolds, Joseph T. Reynolds, Benjamin C. Reynolds, Joseph H. Lincoln, and Mr Tucker of Elkton.
