    • Private, Company M, 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry. Also served as an unassigned soldier in the 3rd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery from March 2, 1864 to November 9, 1865. Probably left the 3rd Pennsylvania H.A. to join the 18th Pennsylvania. At war's end, the 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry and the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry were consolidated to form the 3rd Pennsylvania Provisional Cavalry. Transferred to Company D, 3rd Provisional Cavalry on July 14, 1865. Absent, on detached service at muster out. Pennsylvania State Archives lists soldiers named Joseph Pickerin one in Company I as never Joined company and a second in Company M. Based on statistical data, these are the same soldiers. Listed in Company I in pension records.

      Born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Filed for a pension on January 9, 1891, application number 988,277, certificate 899,811 from Nebraska. Wife Emma Pickering filed for a widow's pension on May 27, 1918, application number 1,121,122, certificate number 859,883 from Nebraska. Died in Ingleside, Nebraska(findagrave)
