His tombstone indicates that "he was in the 4th Regt of the NC State Troops. He was killed in the Battle of Seven Pines near Richmond. Aged 26 years." He was the son of Absalom Knox I and Isabella Falls Simonton. Absalom Knox Simonton II lived in Statesville with Robert F. and Roxanna Simonton in the 1850 census. Robert F. was a merchant. Absalom K. himself was 16 years of age in that census. (Note: Robert F. and Roxana Simonton were also shown in the 1860 census, where Robert was shown to be the Secretary and Treasurer of an unidentifyable railroad. Absalom was not shown with them in that census.) Absalom married Margaret Isabella Reynolds. They were supposedly the parents of three children. He was supposed to have been in a brick manufacturing business with a brother-in-law, Hugh Reynolds, before the war.
