- Mrs. Ruby Parrish Thompson, age 90 of Gretna, VA went to be with her Lord at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, VA.
She was born in Pittsylvania County, VA and was a daughter of the late Willie Smith Parrish and Algie Wells Parrish.
She was also predeceased by her husband James Andrew Thompson, Jr., one son James (Jimmy) Thompson III, one brother William Kermit Parrish and one sister Janice Parrish.
She was an active member of Riceville Baptist Church where she served in many capacities, including as a Sunday School Teacher and a member of WMU. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers, sewing and spending time with her family.
She is survived by one son Bill Thompson and wife Debbie Thompson of Gretna, one daughter Kathy Puckett and husband Don Haas of Houston, TX, one sister Betty Stump and husband David Stump of Ringgold, VA, one sister-in-law Ann Parrish of Danville, VA, a daughter-in-law, Linda Thompson of Gretna, seven grandchildren Amanda Thompson Hines, James (Andy) Thompson IV, Jason Puckett, Jessica Puckett Anderson, William Lee Thompson, Jr., Adam Thompson and Wade Quarles and 13 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted at the Carl O Moran Memorial Garden by Reverend Shelton Miles.
Colbert-Moran Funeral Home in Gretna assisted the family.

Mr. James Andrew Thompson, Jr., 86, of 5685 Riceville Road, Gretna, VA went to be with his Lord at Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, VA. Born in Pittsylvania County, VA, he was the son of the late James Andrew Thompson, Sr and Mary Alice Reynolds Thompson. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Riceville where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Choir.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by a sister Mary Thompson Belknap.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Ruth Parrish Thompson of the residence, two sons James Andrew Thompson III and William L Thompson, both of Gretna, a daughter Kathy Thompson Puckett of Houston, TX, two sisters Louise Thompson Adams of Java and Alice Thompson Schilling of Calabash, NC, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
