US Congressman. Educated in classical studies, he was principal of Albion Academy New York, for six years and superintendent of Orleans County, (1843-45). He then studied law, was admitted to the bar 1843 and commenced to practice in Albion, New York. He also served in local offices, including Justice of the Peace and Clerk of the New York, Orleans County Board of Supervisors. In 1860, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-sixth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Silas M. Burroughs, serving until 1861. Not seeking reelection, he resumed the practice of law and was judge and surrogate, of Orleans County New York, (1864-68).
