No documentary evidence as to their surnamessurvives; however, from the given names of his sons, it appears probable that the first wife was a Dudley or a Claiborne, and the second was Beverley, or at least they were connected with these families in some way....

[Abb.Co., WB1/254-5] It will be noted that this Hickerson Barksdale styled himself "Junr." which was undoubetedly merely to distinguish between himself and his cousin, Hickerson. No. 46, q.v. One of these cousins was a soldier of the Revolution in Pickens' Brigade.
