Mrs. William Neeley McClanahan

Female Bef 1710 - Aft 1740  (31 years)

Personal Information    |    Media    |    Sources    |    All    |    PDF

  • Name Mrs. William Neeley McClanahan
    • No record is found to support the marriage; however contained in the deed book 1-2-3 of Pittsylvania the transfer of land by John Neeley & Robert Neallys [sic] to William Neally of Pittsylvania County is witnessed by William McCleneehan (McClanahan)..........described as land John Neally purchased of Col. Jno Chiswel. Hugh Reynolds too, bought land from John Chiswell.

William McClanahan's signature as witness is a "breadcrumb" to lead us to the conclusion that William Neeley's wife was a McClanahan. She may be his daughter or he stands on record as her protector and is looking out for her interests. 5 Sep 1769. We may then look for a record in Augusta County.-mfe

A 2nd 'breadcrumb' is the name of Hugh Reynolds' son, Joseph M. Reynolds. While there is no evidence of what the M. stands for, it is likely that his middle name is McClanahan, for his grandmother.
