  Chancery Records show Beverly Barksdale, Administer with the will annexed of Alexander Carter, Decd.... Will of Alexander Carter: Just debts punctually paid; That done, I then sent to my wife Margaret B. Carter all and every part and particle of my Estate during her natural life or widowhood; if she should think it proper to marry again, my estate must thus be divided as the Law may then direct. At the death of my wife, my will is that my lands consisting of three tracts, two in Halifax, one in Pittsylvania shall be sold in the then most advisable manner and the money arising from such sale together with my negroes and every part and particle of my estate except my house, which was willed to me by my Father, I give then to be equally divided among my children and their heirs forever. My house I give to my son, Theodorick and lastly I do hereby appoint my wife Execudrix to this my last Will and Testament given under my hand this 11th day of Jan 1826. Presented 25 Mar 1839: Written in the hand of Alexander Carter is ordered to be recorded. Whereupon Margaret B. Carter widow of said decdent the Executrix named in said Will came unto Court and ...refused to take upon herself the burden of the Executrix thereof, whereupon on the motion of Beverly Barksdale who made oath according to Law together with Claiborne W. Barksdale, Henry Barksdale, John Patterson and Barrester Anderson for his security interest into and acknowledged a Bond in the penalty of $60 00 conditioned according to said certificate is granted him for obtaining Letters of Administration of the Estate of Said DEcedent with the siad Will amended in Due from.~ Executor of the Will of Alexander Carter is Beverly Barksdale; these families were neighbors and Beverly is also seen on many documents related to his involvement with these Theodorick Carter's families in Halifax Co., Virginia

  [S122] Genealogy. com, http://genforum.genealogy.com/carter/messages/14001.html. Notes on The Brooklyn Carter's and the Elmo Tavern Theoderick Carter , III , great-great grandfather of Nathaniel H. Wooding , wrote a will dated July 1805 , Book 7 page 152. He did not mention his homeplace. Alexander Carter , a brother of Nathaniel Carter , wrote a Will dated January 11 1826 . The following is extracted from it "At the death of my wife my will is that my lands consisting of three tracts , two in Halifax and one in Pittsylvania , shall be sold in the most advisable manner and the money arising from such sale together with my Negroes and every particle of my estate except my home , which was willed to me by my father ...... my home I give to my son Theoderick." Samuel Carter's will dated February 1836 is in Will Book 17 , page 597. Item 4 ,"I lend to my wife the tract of land whereon I live during her life and at her death I give to my son Philemon." Philemon B. Carter sold to Thomas Haynie 100 acres of land for $ 2,250.00 on September 24 , 1860. References ? the Description are to the Danville Road , Carter's Mill Road and Marable's Line fence. A 30 by 40- foot burial ground is reserved. In Respect to Samuel Carter operating a Tavern in Court Orders Minute Book I , page 140 , in year 1821 , he is granted permission to keep a house of private entertainment. This permission was renewed a number of times. Joseph Carter on Genforum Theoderick Carter , III was Commissioner of Revenue , Southern District , Justice of Peace 1782 and Sheriff 17??.
