Thomas Carter, Sr. of Goochland County, Virginia was married three times. There is documentation that the first two children were from the first wife. Based on naming patterns, I think the third child was also from the first wife. It is just guess-work for which wife the other children were from.

2015-Penele was the second wife of Thomas Carter, Sr. of Goochland County, Virginia. Her original surname is not known. The first wife of Thomas Carter, Sr. was Suannah "Susan" Merry, eldest surviving daughter of William and Jane Merry of York County, Virginia. The 3rd wife of Thomas Sr was also named Susannah but her original surname is not known. It was not Carroll or Baynes or Hulsey or Kilpatrick or any of the other surnames that are often incorrectly claimed.

The date and place of birth of this Thomas Carter, Sr. are not known. He MAY have been born in England or he MAY have been born in Virginia.

Thomas Carter, Jr. was married to Mary Carroll, a daughter of Roger Carroll. Thomas Carter, Jr. was a son of Thomas Carter, Sr. and his first wife Susannah "Susan" Merry.

There was no such person as Penele Carroll. Roger Carroll was the father-in-law of Thomas Carter Junior, not Thomas Carter Senior. For over ten years I have been trying to correct this incorrect claim of a Penele Carroll.

The Thomas Carter who was married to Mary Kilpatrick was from a different Carter family. There were three men with the name Thomas Carter all living in Goochland County, Virginia in the mid-1700's and all three were married to women named Mary. Very confusing.

I do not have much information about John Carter, son of Thomas Carter, Jr. and Mary Carroll. I have in my notes that he moved to Georgia. I would be interested in learning what information you have on this John Carter. What I have has been posted here:
