John Edward "Johnny" Powell, 29, of 325 Gallaway Ave., Dublin, died Wednesday afternoon in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital, as a result of an automobile accident.
Born Sept, 22, 1953 in Pulaski. He was the son of Adison Bradeer Powell of Halifax.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Cruise Powell.
He was the foster son of Walter Clifton Duncan and Lilly Vickers Duncan of Dublin.
He is survived also by his step-mother,-Jean Duncan Powell of Halifax.
He was a member of the Dublin United Methodist Church.
Other Survivors are one son, Anthony "Tony" Quentin Powell, of Dublin; one sister, Mrs. Jerry (Elaine) Yegan of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Tommy Powell, U.S. Navy in San Diego, Calif., and Billy Powell of Oxford, North Carolina and one foster brother, Peyton Duncan of Radford.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. from the Dublin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul E. Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens of Dublin. Friends may visit anytime today with the family receiving friends from 7-9 p.m. at the Bower Funeral Home, Dublin. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Saturday to lie in state until the service. Bower Funeral Home, Dublin, is handling the arrangements.
