      DAVID PHILPOTT was the 6th child of 12, born to Charles Thomas Philpott & Elizabeth Garrett Mockoboy. He was born Oct 6, 1791 on "The Merryland Tract" in Frederick Co Maryland and grew up in Henry Co Virginia. He died July 10, 1873 in Heard Co Georgia and was buried in the Philpott Cemetery there. David was married in Henry Co Va Jan 30, 1811 by Rev. James Patterson to Sarah Nance, born Nov 2, 1791 in Henry Co Va. d/o Reuben & Nancy (Brown) Nance. David Philpott's father deeded him 75 acres on Beaver Creek. He sold the land to his brother Allen Philpott and moved to Heard Co Ga after the 1830 census, exact date unknown. Sarah died in Sep. 1849 and is buried in the Philpott family cemetery in Heard County. David was named an heir in his father's will dated Jan.3, 1828. David sold 130 acres of land in Patrick Co. Va. in 1836, after his move to Georgia. The 1850 census gives David's worth as $20,000. After the death of Sarah, David married Exoney Foster who was the sister-in-law of Charles Foster, his son-in-law. (In 1860 David was 68 and Exonia was 30). In the 1830 Patrick County, Virginia census their were 12 persons in David's household plus several slaves. David was the father of six identified children, there may have been others. Four identified children were with his first wife Sarah and two children with his second wife Exoney.

      2. Reuben B. Philpott, born ca 1813 in Henry Co Va. and died in Heard County, Georgia year unknown and was buried in the Philpott cemetery. Reuben married Sarah "Sallie" Koger.
      3. David Allen Philpott, born July 23, 1823 in Patrick Co Va and died Aug 10, 1888, married Tabitha E. unknown.
      4. Sarah B. Philpott, married ----Jeter.
      5. Mary V. Philpott was born in 1854. Her mother was David's second wife Exoney Foster who was age 31 in the 1860 Heard County, Georgia census.
      6. Susan B. Philpott, her mother was Exoney. Susan married John Daniel.
