  • Notes
    • "Samuel Blair's grave was located in family cemetery off
route 750 at Rondo, on Bob Hubbard's property. (1988)
There appear to be only seven graves: Julia Walker
      1836-1908, Arthur Sidney Blair 1845-1903, Clarrise W.
Fuller 1802-1890, Samuel Blair 1789-1870, According to Mr.
Bob Hubbard, the two joining cabins located close by was
Samuel Blair's home. We have so far been unable to confirm
where William Blair first lived after moving to
Pittsylvania County." So says William Otey Blair, 804
Montclair Ave., Frederick, Md. 21701" quote from Christine
Reynolds Stone in her biography of William Garrett
      Reynolds' descendents.

    • 150 years ago April 6,1865......Sgt.Samuel Brittain Blair Jr. an older brother to my Ggrandfather Luther Rice Blair, and one of 7 Blair brothers in the Confederacy, was with the Pittsylvania Co. Va. Chatham Grays of the 53rd Inf. Va. They fought most major battles in Va./Md/Pa. The 53rd suffered huge losses at Gettysburg and was one of the few "over the wall" in Picket's Charge. Samuel was a Sgt. at the time of his capture in Farmville, Va. (Saylors Creek) on the Confederate withdrawal from Richmond & Petersburg in the last days before Appomattox, the surrender. Captured April 6,1865, and sent to Newport News, Va. to a Union prison camp 3 days before the surrender April 9, 1865 -Sammy Blair, Descendant

    1. [S33] Sammy Blair.
Regarding my Blair line, many have wondered where the "Britton" came from as a middle name:

I am more convinced now that my GG Grandfather Samuel Blair 1789-1870, did not have the middle name "Brittain" , there's no evidence on any documents,EVER...... His second wife Clarissa W. Fuller 1802-1890 (my GG Grandmother), her father's name is Britton Fuller(my GGG Grandfather) married to Nancy Jackson(my GGG Grandmother also) It makes complete sense that the first son of Samuel and Clarissa would be named Samuel after his father, and middle name after Clarissa's father Britton, her first son ever born to her....hence...Samuel Britton Blair JR. 1838-1911
