Mr. Miller, of Charlotte, was peacefully ushered into his new heavenly home on his 93rd birthday. He was born December 8, 1915, to the late Jeannette Jackson and Charles G. Miller, Sr. in Parkesburg, PA. He passed away peacefully at CMC-Main on December 8, 2008, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parent, a brother, Charles G. Miller, Jr., a sister, Dorothy Whitney and his wife of 63 years, Kathryn Reynolds Miller, whom he lovingly care for in her last years. A son, William Miller who died at birth in 1952, also preceded him in death.
Two sisters, Ellen Gordon and Frances Hery, both of Parkesburg, PA, survive Mr. Miller. His two children, Megan Flouhouse, with husband Gary, and David Miller with wife Theresa, whom are all of Charlotte, survive their loving father, who will be greatly missed. Four caring grandchildren, Amy King, with husband Brian of Waxhaw, Ashley Mokris, with husband Taylor of Charlotte, and William Miller and Rebecca Miller, both of Charlotte, also survive their Pop Pop. Mr. Miller was also blessed with two great-grandchildren who adored their Pop Pop, Carson King and Kennedy King, both of Waxhaw.
While attending Parkesburg High School (PA), Mr. Miller excelled in sports and was awarded an athletic scholarship to West Chester State College for playing baseball and soccer. A WWII veteran, Mr. Miller graduated from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy after his honorable discharge from the Navy. He was a pharmacist at CMC-Main from 1962 to 1984, when he retired due to health problems. Mr. Miller was still reading his pharmacy journals several months before his death.
Since 1962, Mr. Miller lived in Charlotte. He moved to Sunrise Assisted Living of South Charlotte in February 2008. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Sunrise for the TLC and outstanding care he received in his last year of life. The family would also like to thank the excellent staff of 7 Tower at CMC-Main for ensuring his last days on this earth were peaceful and pain-free. Finally, the family would like to express their eternal appreciation to Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, especially Diane Abdelrahman, for their amazing support and advice at the end of his fight, ensuring the most peaceful and dignified passing for Mr. Miller.
A graveside service to celebrate his life will be on Saturday, December 13, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Weddington, NC, with Reverend Ed Briggs of Weddington United Methodist Church officiating. Ed became a close friend to Mr. Miller in the last year. Ed brought to each visit to Mr. Miller a big smile and lots of conversation, and the family will never forget how he showed Pop-Pop a glimpse of God's face with each visit. God Bless you Ed!
