Remember, JTC Sr.'s Callie was not dead in 1887 as was passed down through the years. Stephanie and I found a record of her being alive in 1891 (as I recall) and Empress Carter remembered her having married a Mr. Wood after divorcing Thomas Oscar Carter. She would have been about 40 at the time of this birth.
      Name Carter Wood
      Sex Male
      Race White
      Father's Name J D Wood
      Father's Sex Male
      Mother's Name Callie Wood
      Mother's Sex Female
      Event Type Birth
      Event Date Apr 1894
      Event Place Albemarle, Virginia
      Just a real quick note.

Apparently Connie at one time inquired about a will for James Thomas Carter, Sr. and if he had left any property to wife Martha or his son Junior and the answer is no, he did not.

Also, if you recall, my grandfather knew a cousin by the name of Empress Carter Dawson, and Connie had written to her and they had established a relationship. Empress is a descendant of Thomas Oscar Carter and Callie Carter.

Per their correspondence, Empress wrote that Callie had divorced Thomas Oscar Carter but did not know when, and that Callie had remarried a Mr. Wood with no first name.

Empress stated that she only saw her grandmother about once a year and did not provide a location as to where Callie had resided.

In the box there was research I had done because I recognized my own handwriting.

Here's what I was researching when I first started up with Connie back in 2014 and 2015.

There were 2 James Carter's living in Halifax county, VA and at the same time. They were both about the same age, married the same year and both married a Caroline. Our James married Caroline H. Wesley and the other James married Caroline America Arrington. Both Caroline's are buried in the Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery. James (the other) was the son of Richard Carter and Nancy Powell and died on June 26, 1928 in NC. His wife's tombstone is likely related to his wife who also went by 'Callie' Carter and hence why some of the confusion.
