We presume John Scruggs to be the father of Drury and Theodorick Carter to be the s/o Giles2; Theodorick2 Carter is dead several years before this document is executed.

Since my line is through the Carter's daughter, Mary, who married Drury Scruggs, I have not spent a lot of time on the Webbs:


      First Generation

      1. Theodorick CARTER was born about 1671 in Charles City County, Virginia. He died Jul 1736 - Apr 1737 in Henrico County, Virginia. His will dated 22 Jul 1736 and entered into probate in the April term of Court in 1737:
      In the name of God amen I Theodorick CARTER of the parish and county of Henrico being sick but of perfect memory do this twenty second day of July one thousand seven hundred thirty Six make this my last Will and Testament.

      First and principally I commit my Soul to Almighty God in
      [illegible] and by whose mercy and [illegible] of my Blessed Saviour and redeemer Jesus Christ I [several illegible words] my body to the earth to be decently Buryed at the discretion of my executrix hereafore named and as for
      Dispossing my Estate I give and Devise the same in the manner following:
      I give and devise unto my Beloved wife Elizabeth as long as
      she shall live my plantation land and appurtanances and after her death or Marriage I give unto my son Theodorick CARTER ahdn his heirs my plantation with two hundred
      and eighteen acres of land.
      I give and devise to my son John, one hundred and twenty
      acres beginning at a Birch standing on Roundhill Branch thence along a line of marked trees to [illegible] dividing line between Henry Spears and his land to a [illegible]
      oak on the farther side of the road then along the line of
      John Webb to a [illegible] Chickahominy Swamp thence [illegible]. My wife is not to be excluded from this land so long as She shall remain Solo, during which time
      I give her my Negro named Will and after that time I give
      him to my son Theodorick with negro child named Dick. I give unto my son John and his heirs after the death or marriage of his Mother, my Negro woman Judith and a
      mullato girl named Lucy with what children she may have
      [illegible] he has a right to the possession of one. I give unto my said son John another bed, rug and [illegible] great Chest, pot and Hooks and two Cows.
      I give unto my daughter, Mary CARTER, one cow and calf. I give unto my beloved Wife Elizabeth all the rest of my Estate of any kind whatsoever. And I do make her executrix of this my Last Will and Testament.
      Hereby ordering that my estate shall not be inventoried or
      appraised. In witness whereof I have set my hand and affixed my seal the day and year aforesaid written.

      Theodorick CARTER and Elizabeth __(?)__ were married about
      1695 in Virginia. Elizabeth __(?)__ was born about 1680. She died between 1747 and 1751 in Henrico County, Virginia. Her will dated 8 Jul 1747 was entered into probate in Dec. 1751.
      To her son, Theodorick Carter she left six head of cattle,
      the great Bible and a white mare.
      To her daughters, Elizabeth Martin, Anne Ferris, Susannah
      Scruggs, Martha Garthwright, Mary Scruggs she left personal items and livestock.
      To her grandson Cuthbert Webb, livestock.
      To her son, John Carter the rest of the estate and he to
      be executor.
      Wit: Hannah Morgan, Theodorick Carter, Mark Clarke.

      2. Hannah CARTER (Theodorick-1) was born about 1698.
      Hannah CARTER and John WEBB Jr. were married about 1713. John WEBB Jr. was born in 1694 in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, Virginia. He died in 1736 in Henrico County, Virginia. His will was probated in Henrico County
      in July 1736. It named sons Giles, Theodorick, Henry,
      Jacob and Cuthbert.
      Wit: James COLE, Theodorick CARTER, Thomas CARTER, John
      CARTER. Hannah CARTER and John WEBB Jr. had the following children:

      10 i. John WEBB Jr. was born about 1715.
      11 ii. James WEBB was born about 1717.
      12 iii. Giles WEBB was born about 1720.
      13 iv. Theodorick WEBB was born about 1720.
      14 v. Henry WEBB was born about 1725.
      15 vi. Jacob WEBB was born about 1730.
      16 vii. Cuthbert WEBB was born in 1733. He died about 1778 in Albemarle County, Virginia.

      3. Ann CARTER (Theodorick-1) was born about 1701. She married (Unknown) FARRIS.
      4. Susannah CARTER (Theodorick-1) was born about 1703.
      She married (Unknown) SCRUGGS.
      5. Theodorick CARTER Jr (Theodorick-1) was born about 1706 in Virginia. He resided in in Goochland County, Virginia in in 1741 On June 15, 1741 Theodorick Carter of Goochland sold land to Richard Morning and Thos. Bassett. On 16 Nov 1742 Joseph Dobbs sold land to Theodorick Carter. He resided in in Amelia County, Virginia in in 1748 He had a grant of 975 acres at Bush and Briery Roads...in the sections which became Prince William County. He died about 1777 in Prince Edward County, Virginia. Theodorick Carter's will was dated 7 Dec 1777, probated 19 Jan 1778 in Prince Edward County, VA.

      In the name of God, Amen, I Theodorick Carter of the Parish of St. Patrick, County of Prince Edward...unto my daughter Susannah Stubblefield and sons John, Theodorick and William Carter each one shilling sterling... unto my son Richard Carter, one negro man named Dick, one feather bed and furniture...unto my daughter Nancy Waddill Thompson one negro girl named Zibb, now in her possession, also the cows and calves...unto my son Waddill Carter, that part of my lands within the following bounds, to begin at the Cross branch of the road to run in a straight line by the graveyard to this own line, all the land below this line on the north side of the road, also one negro man named Tom...unto my daughter Molly Carter one negro girl named Agg and [illegible] Robert Lawson four head of sheep and two cows to her and her heirs...unto my daughter Sally Carter one negro boy named Will and one negro boy named Abraham, the sorrel mare I purchased of Charles Willliamson, one feather bed and furniture, her own saddle and bridle, four head of sheep and two cows...unto my son Samuel Carter the remainder of the land and plantation whereon I now live and the negros Moll and her child Neptune, all the residue of my estate not heretofore particularly mentioned of any kind or nature whatsoever, except two thirds of my pewter and two negroes named Jack and Sarah, these two I leave to my daughters Molly and Sally for their support till they marry or die then to my son Samuel. It is my will that so long as my daughters Molly and Sally live that they have the free use and liberty of their chambers in my dwelling without denial or interruption by my son Samuel.

      1735 in New Kent County, Virginia. Ann WADDELL (daughter of William WADDELL Jr. and Sarah (DENNIS) was born on 24 Jan 1713/14 in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, Virginia. Theodorick CARTER Jr and Ann WADDELL had the following children:

      Virginia. She died after 1782 in Virginia. She resided in in Buckingham County, Virginia in 1788 From Rev. Chastain's Journal: Mary Scrugs (sic) debit. Decm. 15 1788. To making a sute (sic) of corse (sic) cloths (sic) for Carter Scrugs (sic). 1.7.4. Lipscomb for trimin
      (sic) and Pipes 4.7.7. Account 9.4.0.

      Mary CARTER and Drury SCRUGGS were married about 1745 in
      Cumberland County, Virginia. Drury SCRUGGS (son of Richard SCRUGGS and Martha DRURY (?)) was born on 1 Feb 1725 in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, Virginia. He
      died in 1782 in Cumberland County, Virginia. The will of Drury Scruggs is filed in Book 2, pg. 298, Cumberland County, VA.

      estate and at the death or marriage of my wife my will and
      desire is that the negroes and persoanl estate should be equally divided by lot between my sons Edward Scrugs and Carter Scruggs & my daughter Fanney Scruggs.
      Lastly I do hereby appoint my beloved wife Mary Scruggs, my
      sons John Scruggs & Edward Scruggs executors of this my last will & testament hereby utterly revoking and making void all other wills & testaments, heretofore
      made. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand &
      seal this twenty ninth day of April one thousand seven hundred and eighty-two.
