- Florence H. Kenworthy of West Chester Florence Louise Kenworthy, 83, of West Chester, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend. Florence was born in Philadelphia to Harry and Anna Hummel. She was a life-long resident of West Chester; she attended West Chester Senior High School and sang in the choir at West Chester United Methodist Church. At church, Florence met the love of her life, John "Jack" Kenworthy, and the two wed at the church on April 15, 1950. They celebrated nearly 58 years of marriage before Jack passed away in 2008. Florence was also a loving mother to their sons, Steven, Gary, and John. As a young woman, Florence worked as a Bell Telephone operator. She later pursued her passion of helping others, spending most of her career working as a support teacher at First Step in West Chester. Florence enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her seven grandchildren and her great-granddaughter. She was a dear friend to many and a lifelong member of West Chester United Methodist Church. Florence is survived by her son, Steven, and his wife, Tammy; her son, John, and his wife, Terry; her grandchildren Ashley, Brittany, Joshua, Kyle, Catherine, Alexis and Lilyana; her sisters, Anne Entress, Betty Smith and Marie Robinson; and her brother, Malvin Charsha. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack, and her son, Gary. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 27th at the United Methodist Church of West Chester, 129 South High Street, West Chester, where family and friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to The ARC of Chester County, 900 Lawrence Drive, West Chester, PA 19380.
