      William Worsham wrote his will 13 May 1833 & named children: MaryAnn Worsham, Sarah M. Worsham, Elizabeth Worsham, Judith F. Williams & her husband John R. Williams, Margaret J. Anderson. Grandchildren: Elizabeth Williams Metcalf d/o his deceased daughter Elizabeth. Exors Branch J. Worsham, Samuel C. Anderson. Wit: R. E. Farrar, Henry E. Watkins, Henry Thweat. Proved 19 Sep 1836 Prince Edward Co., VA. A codicil was written 4 Apr 1835 and he left to his daughter, Judith F. Williams, a negro woman named Polly; to daughter MaryAnn Worsham a negro boy, James. The will was presented in court 19 Sep. 1836. William and his family start on page 343 of the Worsham and Washam Family History.       William Worsham b. 16 Jun 1752 Chesterfield Co., VA. He was listed in the will of his father, John dated 20 May 1769 Dale Parish, Chesterfield Co., VA. "To son William, 1/2 my land in Amelia adjoining my brother William Worsham's estate." [Chesterfield Co., VA Wills 1766-1785, Bk 3, p. 36] He md Margaret Jones abt 1780 who was b 18 Nov 1756 d/o Robert Jones & Sarah Mayo. William served in the Revolutionary War. When he applied for pension in 1836, he stated he got his birth date from a prayer book which belonged to his mother. He enlisted in the 1st Virginia Regiment in the summer of 1775. He was then a resident of Amelia but much of his time was spent in Chesterfield Co. He served for one year under Joseph Scott, Col. Patrick Henry, Major Francis Eppes until Dec 1775. He recived a commission as Capt. in the Militia and in 1780 ordered into the service from Amelia. In Feb 1781, there was again a call for troops from Amelia Co. when he went as a Captain of Militia and served three months. Before he could reach home, he with others were taken prisoners by the British Army & detained for a period of two months; making his whole service as a soldier twelve months and a Captain of Militia including the time he was a prisoner, fifteen months. Branch J. Worsham, clerk of the court of Prince Edward witnessed the application 17 Aug 1736. [Revolutionary War Pension Claim #S6436.       Robert Goode sold 131 acres to William Worsham for 16,375 pounds tobacco on 26 Jan 1788. The land located both sides of Sayler Creek, Prince Edward Co., VA. [Prince Edward Co., VA, Deeds 1788-1790, Bk 8, p. 82]
      Amelia Co March Court of 1788 recorded that William Worsham son and devisee of John dec'd asked "for a partition of lands divisions to the said William and his brother Thomas by will of John ordered that John Gooch, John Howson, Rowland Ward, Jr. and Mary Ferguson and Sherwood Walton do make partition of lands between the Parties of John Hedges a claimant under the will of William Worsham." [Amelia Co., VA Wills 1786-1793, Bk 4, pp 99-100]
      On 29 Mar 1788, "In obedience to the within order, we have surveyed and divided lands between the parties within mentioned agreeable to the will within mentioned viz. the one half to John Hedges and the other half between William Worsham & Thomas Worsham. Wit John Gooch, John Howson, Rowland Ward, Mary Ferguson." [Amelia Co., VA Wills, 1786-1793, Bk 4, p. 100]
      William Worsham of Prince Edward sold to Rowland Ward of Amelia 250 acres for £500 in Jones line on 22 Jan 1789. Wit: Joseph Wilkerson, Rowland Ward, Jr. [Amelia Co., VA Deeds 1786-1789, Bk 28, p. 333]
      Wm. Worsham sold to Sam'l Goode 105 acres on 29 Oct 1789. [Prince Edward Co., VA Deeds 1788-1790, Bk 8, p. 190]
      William Worsham of Prince Edward sold to Thomas Worsham on 6 Oct 1791 for £100, in consideration of exchange of lands made by William & Thomas devised them by their father in his last will & testament 20 May 1769 Chesterfield, Co. The 280 acres of land on the Waters of the North side of Deep Creek adjoining lands of Richard Jones, Rowland Ward & John Howson being the said William Worsham choice. /s/ William Worsham. [Nottoway Co., VA Deeds 1789-1797, Bk 1, p. 228] William Worsham of Prince Edward and Thomas Worsham exchanged lands on 6 Oct 1791: "in consideration of exchange of lands made by William & Thomas of their parts devised them by their father, etc. Also the land that the said Thomas Worsham now liveth on being lower half of land devised Wm. & Thomas by their father and the land Rowland Ward is now in possession of by a purchase thereof from the aforesaid William Worsham." Wit: Asa Davis, Richard Jones, Jr., James Bagley, John Good. [Nottoway Co., VA Deeds 1789-1797, Bk 1, p. 230] William Worsham signed a petition in 1792 which asked that certain funds which had belonged to the parish be used for public. (Episcopal Parish dissolved)
      In Amelia Co. Court for August Term 1794, William Worsham, Thomas Worsham by John Gooch, John Robertson and Betty Branch, his wife, John Scott and Lucy his wife sued William Royall and John Royall, Wm. Royall Exec. of Joseph Royall dec'd and John Royall, Richard, Joseph A., William and James T. Royall children of Joseph Royall and Daniel Hardaway Deft. [Bel Hubbard Wise, Amelia Co., VA Will Book 5 1793-1799 & Order Bk 20, p. 316 (Signal Mountain, TN: Mountain Press) p. 43] William Worsham signed a petition in 1796 that a town be established on land of John Townes at Buffalow Falls on the Appomattox.
      William Worsham was appointed inspector of tobacco at Townes Warehouse on 17 Jun 1797. "Jamestown Trs. Op to Wm. Worsham 2 Lots." [Prince Edward Co., VA Deeds 796-1800, Bk 11, p. 92] William Worsham was granted an ordinary license at the courthouse in 1805.
      He is on the 1820 Prince Edward Co., VA Census, p. 162 with Males: 1 16-18; 1 16-26; 2 45+; Females 2 10-16; 3 26-45; 2 45+. John W. Worsham & Branch Worsham are on the 1820 Census.
      He was bequeathed a half dozen silver table spoons, also a silver ladle and 1/4 of his mother Elizabeth (Branch) Worsham's estate in her will proved 19 Feb 1827.
      His mother's death was in the 22 Feb 1827 Richmond Enquirer. "Died at residence of Capt. Wm. Worsham in Prince Edward Co. on the 1st inst, Mrs. Elizabeth Worsham in the 99th year of age." She is bur. at the old William Worsham home, in the Worsham graveyard, Old Prince Edward Court House now known as Worsham.
      He is on the 1830 Prince Edward Co., VA Census with Males: 1 20-30; 1 70-80; Females 1 20-30; 1 40-50. Thomas & Branch J. Worsham are in the 1830 Census.

      William d 27 Aug 1836 in Prince Edward Co at the home of his son-in-law Samuel C. Anderson and is buried in the Worsham graveyard at the old William Worsham home, at Old Prince Edward Court House now known as Worsham. [The Virginia Genealogical Society, Death Notices from Richmond VA Newspapers (Richmond, VA: The Society) A notice of his death was in the newspaper "died Aug 27 at Samuel C. Anderson's in Prince Edward, Capt. William Worsham a Soldier of the Revolution age 87." [Farmville Journal, Richmond Enquirer 16 Sep 1836, p 3 & Richmond Compiler 7 Sep, p 3] The grave yard plot was made in 1866 by Branch J. Worsham, Prince Edward. William is bur plot 4.       All of his children were named when they applied to collect unpaid pension payments on 24 Feb 1837: Lucy H. Anderson (wife of Samuel C. Anderson) Judith F. Williams (wife of John R. Williams) and Mary A. Worsham of this county, children of William Worsham late pensioner (former private and captain) who resided in this county for 40 years and previous thereto in Amelia Co., appoint Branch J. Worsham, another child of the pensioner, attorney to collect arrears due from 4 Mar 1836 to 27 Aug 1836 the day of his death. Wit: Nathaniel Jones, Susannah R. M. Worsham.
      In Prince Edward Co., VA court on 16 Jan 1837, it was satisfied that the pensioner died leaving no widow but children Sarah M. the wife of Nathan Harvey of Charlotte Co; William H. Worsham of state of Georgia; Branch J. Worsham of this county; Lucy H. the wife of Samuel C. Anderson of this county; Margaret J. the wife of Mathew Anderson of North Carolina; Samuel J. Worsham of Campbell Co.; Judith F. the wife of John R. Williams of this county and MaryAnn Worsham of this county. On 6 Mar 1837 B.J. Worsham collected $49.28.
      On 7 Apr 1837 in Rockingham Co., NC Margaret J. Anderson another child of the pensioner appointed Benjamin J. Baldwin attorney to collect her share. On 5 May 1837, B. J.       In a letter from J.D. Eggleston to Mrs. D. E. Metcalfe Bryant, 125 North 5th St., Danville, KY dated 29 Jan 1943, gives her Branch Jones line, son of William Worsham. The letter is on file at the Virginia Historical Society, 428 N. Boulevard, Richmond, VA. "You are descended from the Branches in two lines--one through William Branch, the other through Elizabeth Branch, who md John Worsham. Your Branch lines goes back through Christopher Branch into England as far as 1500 and earlier.
      "Your Worsham line goes back to William Worsham, who died in Virginia ante 1661. As far as I know, all the Virginia Worshams descend from him and his brother George. Your Mayo line goes back into England to 1650 and earlier. The Jones line I will have to look up. I am not sure as to the lineage of Dr. Robert Jones who md Sarah (Mayo) Scott. As soon as I can look into all these lines, I will write you as to my charges, which I hope will be agreeable to you."
