The following is extracted from it "At the death of my wife my will is that my lands consisting of three tracts, two in Halifax and one in Pittsylvania, shall be sold in the most advisable manner and the money arising from such sale together with my Negroes and every particle of my estate except my home, which was willed to me by my father ...... my home I give to my son Theoderick." Samuel Carter's will dated February 1836 is in Will Book 17, page 597. Item 4," I lend to my wife the tract of land whereon I live during her life and at her death I give to my son Philemon." Philemon B. Carter sold to Thomas Haynie 100 acres of land for $ 2,250.00 on September 24, 1860. References the Description are to the Danville Road, Carter's Mill Road and Marable's Line fence. A 30 by 40- foot burial ground is reserved.
