      George King Eggleston

      Birth: 24 Feb 1858
      Ridgeway, Henry County, Virginia
      Death: 24 Dec 1903 (aged 45)
      Ridgeway, Henry County, Virginia
Burial: Soyars Cemetery, Ridgeway, Henry Co., VA
Son of Joseph Henry Eggleston, Sr. and Sarah (Sallie) Lou Odle, he was born on his parents farm on the Smith River, on the right hand side of Beckam Church Road. He was a tobacco farmer and leased land from the Hairston family. George married Laura Ellen Wade and together they were the parents of Fannie, Mollie, Edd, Sallie, Georgie, Josie and Samuel.

At one point when his daughter Sallie was a baby she was in a basket on the side of Leatherwood Creek and the water rose and she floated away. George was unaware of this when he found her.

According to his daughter Mollie he was "just fine" when she married on 28 June 1903. He quickly wasted from what the doctor said was either Tuberculosis or Cancer of the Small Intestine. He died at 2 A.M., the clocks were stopped and the mirrors covered with sheets

George was buried next to his wife's maternal grandparents, Edward W. Soyars and Elizabeth Pocahontas West, in a cemetery that is far back in the wood off the end of J. B. Dalton Road in Ridgeway, Virginia. All graves are marked with field stones and have no inscriptions.
