Danville, Danville City, Virginia
Halcotte Townes Carter was the son of Jesse L. Carter and Rebecca Townes Carter. A well known church leader and farmer, living in the Chestnut Hill community all his life. He was a member of the Chestnut Level Baptist Church where he served as treasurer and deacon for many years. He was a member and one of the organizers of Carter Lodge of Masons, serving two terms as Master of the lodge and served as District Deputy for the 38th Masonic District in 1930 and 1931.
Survived by wife, Nannie Richardson Carter, and six children: Leonard H. Carter of Blairs, Harold T. Carter of Winston Salem, N.C., Dr. Aubrey R. Carter of Everett, Wash., Garland E. Carter of Danville, George R. Carter of Richmond and Mrs. R.D. Carter of Norfolk. Nine grandchildren.
