Birth: Feb. 22, 1918 Halifax County Virginia, USA Death: Jul. 14, 2006 Granville County North Carolina, USA OXFORD - Mae Powell Yancey, 88, of Oxford, died Friday, July 14, 2006, in Granville Medical Center. A native of Halifax County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Addison Graves Powell and Bessie Howard Powell. Mrs. Yancey was a former member of Dan river Baptist Church and a member of Enon Baptist Church for over 65 years, actively involved in missions organizations, a former Sunday school teacher and a retired seamstress and homemaker. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday from Enon Baptist Church by the Rev. James C. Shelley Jr. and the Rev. Lee Roy Pittard III. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Randolph Yancey; her daughters, Betty Y. Mitchell and husband, Marc, of New London, Pa., and Paula Y. Pittard and husband, Roy, of Butner; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by brothers, Charlie, Bradsher, Hampton, Carrington and Edgar; and a grandson, John Randolph Neely. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Enon Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Stuart Vaughan, 2580 Hwy 158 West, Oxford, N.C. 27565. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at Enon Baptist Church and other times at the home of Angela and Jason Smith, 2663 Golf Course Road. Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home, 503 College St. is in charge of services.
