He was born on September 4, 1926, in Campbell County, a son of the late Roy Amon Rosser and Ruby Holland Rosser. He was a graduate of Naruna High School and Virginia Commercial College in Lynchburg. He was employed as a railway mail clerk in Washington, D.C., before serving in the Pacific for the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member, Sunday School teacher, and deacon of Kedron Baptist Church, and a former member of the Altavista Lions Club. After graduating from business school, he worked for Commonwealth Discount Corp. in Lynchburg, then worked with Jimmy Hale, Inc., Altavista, for ten years before starting his own dealership, Highview Motors, Inc., in 1961. He was also the owner/operator of Highview Homes, Vistaview Car Wash, Otterview and Riverview mobile home parks, and a small cattle farm. Hugh was elected to the Campbell County Board of Supervisors in 1959 at the age of 32 and was the longest-serving county supervisor in Commonwealth history. He served 52 years as Seneca District Supervisor before retiring from the board, and was known as "the watchdog of the county budget." He served on the Executive Board of the Virginia Association of Counties, Campbell County Water Authority, Campbell County Planning Commission, Campbell County Building Committee, and the Board of Directors for First National Bank of Altavista. He was a fiscally conservative Democrat, a lifelong baseball fan (Cleveland Indians), loved the beach and traveling especially in his motorhome and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved his family and faithfully cared for his beloved wife Patsy for 15 years during her battle with cancer. He is survived by two sons, George H. Rosser, Lynch Station and Kyle S. Rosser (Tonya), Altavista; two daughters, Carolyn S. Cowart (Larry), Rustburg, and Rebecca R. Thomas, Forest; a brother, Paul E. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by American Legion Altavista Memorial Post 36 and Gretna Post 232. A reception in the church fellowship hall will follow the service. The family would like to thank Dr. Hardison and the nursing staff with the LGH Neurological Intensive Care Unit, in particular, "Daddy's girls," Jill and Jesika. Also thanks to Sherry Wisecarver, who stayed with Daddy for four weeks when we couldn't always be at the hospital. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider Kedron Baptist Church, P.O. 8638 No adequate information is found on Rebecca Crook; not her parents, her DOB, Marriage Date. We assume she is much younger and these are her children. Why would Francis wait until he was 55 years old to begin having children? How old was his 2nd wife, Mary Mowbrook whom he married in 1680? Crook, Rebecca (I7250)
