Joseph Alpha Carter, Jr. was the second son of Mattie
Frances Carter and J.A. Carter Sr. He died of pneumonia in
a CCC work camp in Lynchburg, Virginia where he had sought
work after the war when the depression was causing
widespread unemployment.

He was never married and had no issue.

of her as Susie; both said she never married.

William David Reynolds of Chatham, passed away on October 24, 2018. He was born to Fannie Reynolds and Raymond Reynolds on September 23, 1927. He lived his entire life on his family farm. He loved spending time worshiping God at Hollywood and Greenpond Baptist churches. He served in the Army during the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant. He was employed at Goodyear for 26 years. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Bowles Reynolds; two daughters, Carolyn Davis and Beverly Darling; two grandsons. He was also predeceased by his two brothers, Elbert & Robert.
Burial will be in Hollywood Baptist Church Cemetery.

Lieutenant Colonel Robert Lee Oliver, age 81, of Oak Avenue, Garden City, SC went to be with his Lord at Waccamaw Community Hospital.

He was the son of the late Luther A Oliver and Matta Oliver.

He was a LTC in the U S Army and civil engineer with 38 years of service to our country.

He loved the beach and playing Risk on the computer. When he was younger, he enjoyed hot rods.

Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his ex wife, Juanita Frances Reynolds Oliver and a son, Robert Dale Oliver.

Survivors include daughter, Rhona Oliver Lynch of Garden City, son Edward Oliver of Garden City, grandsons David Cole Lynch and Robert James Lynch and sister Pauline Oliver Martin of Martinsville, VA.

His funeral services were private.

Goldfinch Funeral Home served the Oliver family.

HAMPTON - Edith Wilson Mitchell, 89, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003. A lifelong resident of Hampton, she was a Hampton High School graduate and member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie G. Mitchell. She is survived by her daughters, Anne M. Williams and her husband, Edward, of Hampton and Edna Mitchell Baker of Hampton; son, Robert W. Mitchell and wife, Pat, of Palmyra, Va.; brother, Charles Clifton Wilson Jr. and his wife, Pat, of Hampton; grandchildren, Robin M. Eubank, Suzanne W. McDaniel, Robert W. Mitchell Jr., Charles Gregory Mitchell and Kenneth C. Mitchell; 12 great-grandchildren; and nephews, Charles C. Wilson III of Isle of Wight and H. Todd Wilson of Lynchburg. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church by the Rev. Doug Geeting. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. The family wishes any expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders, 20 Interstate Corporation Center, Suite 233, Norfolk, 23502 or the Animal Aid Society, 8 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA 23666. Arrangements are being provided by Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions, 2609 Cunningham Drive in Hampton.

Preston Mulford, of Centreville, Va., died on Jan. 6, 2012. Loving husband of 60 years to Beverley Musick Mulford. Loving father of Preston "Hudson" Mulford (Nancy), Phillip M. Mulford (Lisa), Gardiner S. Mulford (Tatiana), and Harry William Mulford (Mindy). Cherished grandfather of Josh (Sohira), Holland, Travis, Preston, Phillip, Sophia, Jennifer, Samuel, Lindsey, Luke, Sarah, Josie, Samantha, Lucy, Hannah and William. Great grandfather of Anais. Mr. Mulford was president of the Mulford Group and co-owner of The Mulford School. He was 14th generation of the Mulford whaling family of Amagansett, Long Island, N.Y. A memorial service will be held at the St. Paul's Church, 6760 Fayette Street, Haymarket, Va., on Sunday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Medi Home Hospice, or a charity of the donors choice.
