    Although Hampton Wade was not described as dead in his father's Will in 1770, he apparently was, since only his son Robert, and not he, was named as an heir. He must have died before 24 Dec 1764, when his widow Jean (Jane) Ellis Wade married 2nd, Samuel Perrin, by a Halifax Co. bond bearing that date, which was secured by Thomas Covington and Witnessed by Thomas Tunstall. In her Will, dated 4 Nov 1785 and proved 19 Jan 1786, Jean (Jane ) Ellis Wade Perrin made bequests, among others, to her daughter Betsy LeGrand and her son Richard Wade (Halifax Co., VA WB2/177, THE WADE QUARTERLY, Volume 5, Issue 1.) Richard Wade, son of Hampton Wade and Jean Ellis, was born in Amelia Co., VA in 1751, Married Mary 'Polly' Boyd and died in Halifax Co., in 1812. Polly Boyd Wade was born in Halifax County in 1758 and died there in 1815. ....

    In search of Religious freedon, the Rev. Lewis Craig led his entire congregation of 200 Baptists and 400 other settlers from Spotsylvania County Virginia and established them here on Gilbert's Creek.
    This expedition, guided through the wilderness by Captain William Ellis, was the largest group of pioneers ever to enter the District of Kentucky in a single body.

    Erected by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 1947

    This William Ellis is likely the descendant of Immigrant, John Ellis. Note also his association with the Lewis' who descend from Andrew 'Indian Fighter' Lewis. -mfe
